520 0 $aThe Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is the major regional provider of secondary and post secondary examinations and certification for approximately 139,000 (2005), candidates each year, in 16 participating territories. Annually, the most popular examination with more than 50% of the total candidate entry writing this examination is the English Language. Given the popularity and perceived relative importance of the examination, this paper will present the challenges of developing and maintaining readability in this examination. It will present an evaluation of the readability of this examination for the period 2000-2006 using the mathematical equations developed to test the readability of material. The Flesch-Kincaid Reading Tests will be used to determine the reading level and grade (class/age) level of the materials. The data inputs for analysis will be the Summary passages for each sitting for the study period.
